Heinz Guenther Schmidt's Obituary
Heinz Guenther Schmidt, 78, of Culpeper passed away Monday, January 20, 2025. He was born in Austria on May 7, 1946, to the late Henry and Karoline Schmidt. He emigrated to the United States in 1955, grew up and spent more than two decades in New York City and the metro area, and lived in Virginia three separate times.
After school, he worked for Merrill Lynch and was then drafted by the U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper with the 8th Army Infantry. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. When he returned home, he joined Lufthansa and spent a nearly 30-year career working for the airline.
Heinz was a semi-professional soccer player and an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Connie; two sons, Michael (Tannaz) and Matthew Schmidt (Rebecca); three grandchildren, Ava, Madalyn, and Alexis; and two sisters, Dr. Karin Schmidt and Hanne Passler.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Brad Hales officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
