Harvey Myers Hitt's Obituary
Harvey Myers Hitt, 80, of Elkwood died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was born July 20, 1933 in Mitchells, VA to the late Ralph and Elizabeth Butler Hitt.
Mr. Hitt was a hardworking man and a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed gardening, mowing grass, gospel bluegrass music, carpentry, fishing, telling jokes and always had a piece of candy in his pocket. He worked for years at Old Dominion, Bottled Gas and Willow Run Nursery. Mr. Hitt never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Virginia Hitt; his children, Harvey H. Hitt of Culpeper, Sara M. Lacy and her husband, Raymond of Culpeper, Katherine A. Hensley of Hanahan, SC, Jay Haines and his girlfriend, Mendy Scott of Elkwood and Theresa H. Johnson and her husband, Andy of Lignum; his siblings, Ralph S. Hitt, Jr. of Reva, Kelly Hitt of Culpeper, Charles B. Hitt and his wife, CJ of Green Forest, AR and Frances A. Smith and her husband, Jimmy of Culpeper; his devoted caretaker and friend, Carrie Young, and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol A. Soutter; four siblings; Talmadge R. Hitt, Harry Lee Hitt, Mary Rachel McBride and Edna Cooper and his beloved dachshund, Miller whom he lost in April.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 11 am at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Walt Westbrook and Rev. Harry Schaitt officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
