A Time to Be Born
Harriet Marie Roy was born on March 3, 1942 in Madison, Virginia to the late Mary Myrtle Abbott and McDaniel Thompson. She grew up in Madison, Virginia and attended Carver High School in Culpeper, Virginia. She was employed by Madison County Public Schools for 18 yrs followed by employment at American Woodmark in Orange, VA until her retirement.
A Time to Serve
Harriet was baptized as a young adult. She became a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Brightwood, Virginia, where she served diligently as a member of the Usher Board. She later moved membership to Shiloh Baptist Church in Stanardsville, Virginia where she served on the Missionary Board and Kitchen Committee.
A Time to Love
Harriet was united in Holy matrimony to the late James L Roy until his death in 2002. She is survived by her four children, Curtis(Kristin)Thompson of Ruckersville, Virginia, M Sue(Eric)Johnson of Madison, Virginia, Clara Thompson of Stanardsville, Virginia and Rodney(Cynthia )Thompson of Spotsylvania, Virginia, 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, siblings Edward(Priscilla)Abbott, John(Jean)Abbott of Stanardsville, Virginia, Lydia(Phillip)Blakey of Madison , Virginia, V. Maxine Scott and Gail Johnson of Charlottesville, Virginia and Mary Curry of Maryland, sister in-laws Shirley Thompson of Orange, Virginia and Mable Coleman of Washington, DC, as well as numerous nieces nephews, relatives and friends.
A Time to Transition
In God’s perfect timing on Monday, December 6, 2010 at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia, Harriet peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord. We have blessed assurance of her final resting place because the Word of God promises us to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse and one brother Thomas R. Thompson.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701 with Rev. Harrison Williams officiating. A one hour visitation will be held prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Stanardsville.
