Harriet G. Decker's Obituary
Harriet G. Decker went to be with the Lord January 14, 2015. She was born to Henry William and Elise Bertha Gronemeyer on May 23, 1917 in St. Louis, MO.
She completed grade school and graduated from Beaumont High School in June 1934. Harriet continued her education and graduated from Washington University with a BS in May 1938. She finished graduate school at St. Louis University with a MS and became a Medical Technologist at Malinkrodt Chemical in St. Louis, MO. Harriet continued her professional career as a researcher at Tulane University Medical School in New Orleans, LA and finally as a Medical Technologist at Arlington Hospital.
Mrs. Decker met her husband, Harvey, while attending joint church youth meetings in St. Louis. She married Harvey Decker shortly after he joined the military in San Luis Obispo, CA on May 11, 1944. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years on March 5, 2004.
Harriet is survived by her children and their families, Joan (Peter) Jackson, grandchildren Dorothy (John) Bandeian and soon to be great grandchild “Jack” John Jacob and David; Martha Perala, grandchildren Sarah and Micah; Carol (Hugh) Eggborn, grandchild Timothy (Kim) and great grandchildren Vivienne and Vincent; Daniel (Kate), grandchildren, Alexander, Lindsay and Lance.
Harriet was the last surviving member of her immediate family preceded in death by her brothers, Herbert and Frederick, and sisters Jessie, Esther, Annette and Wilma.
Harriet was a devoted and active Christian. She shared her faith, ministered as a pianist and loved to sing about her relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Harriet taught bible classes with Child Evangelism Fellowship and she proudly supported other ministers and missionaries sharing their faith abroad. Mrs. Decker encouraged and inspired a strong Faith in God in her children and extended family. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 10 am at Culpeper National Cemetery with Rev. Sandy Martin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the mission of your choice.
