Hamid Moghaddam's Obituary
Hamid Moghaddam was born in Tehran, Iran in 1957 to Ahmad and Mahin Moghaddam. He was the eldest of 3, and had a happy childhood in Iran during the 60’s. He attended boarding school in England in the 1970’s and returned to Iran and joined the army, where he became a Royal Guard in the Imperial Army of the Shah. During the 1978-79 Islamic Revolution and the war in Iran, Hamid bravely risked his life to save many of his friends and colleagues, and was deeply affected by the experience. After the revolution, Hamid started a very successful business servicing oil tankers in the Persian Gulf. The business was eventually confiscated by affiliates of the Islamic Republic and Hamid immigrated to the United States in the mid 1980s. He was reunited with his high school sweetheart Shohreh Nikkhah in the US and married her. Hamid and Shohreh lived happily in Northern Virginia where they raised their two lovely children Shayan and Shawna. In early 2001 Hamid was diagnosed with advanced Multiple Myeloma (cancer) with a poor prognosis, but was able to miraculously recover through his own remarkable fortitude, the love and support of his family and friends, and breakthrough treatments. In the last 9 years Hamid defied the odds and survived several relapses of his cancer remaining optimistic, and he fought hard to stay alive and support his family. He spent much of this last year writing his memoirs. He passed away peacefully at home as he had always wanted to, after a long illness, in the arms of his son Shayan.
