Guy B. Oldaker's Obituary
Guy B. Oldaker died peacefully of natural causes at the age of 90 in Culpeper, VA on February 24th, 2018. A Virginia native, Guy attended Western High School in D.C. He was a WWII veteran and served in the South Pacific. Guy returned home in 1948 and briefly attended American University before beginning his government career at the Pentagon. Over the next 34 years, Guy rose to the position of Archivist of the Army, receiving a commendation for meritorious service upon his retirement in 1982.
Guy is survived by Elisabeth, his loving but frequently exasperated wife of 68 years, four children of varying degrees of eccentricity—Guy III (Cindy), Robin O’Bryan (David Grindle), Leslie Allen (Ted), and John—10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
Guy will be buried in the family private graveyard at his home in Culpeper’s Western View Plantation, beside the grave of Betty Washington Lewis (sister of George Washington), Guy’s mother-in-law Elsie Hendricks, several dear friends, one barely tolerated acquaintance, and numerous beloved family pets.
