Gracie "Barbara" Dodson's Obituary
Gracie “Barbara” Dodson, 70, of Haywood died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at her residence. She was born January 12, 1946 in Arlington to the late Glenn and Georgie Hall Henry.
Mrs. Dodson loved flower gardening, playing bingo and slot machines. She also enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas, dancing, listening to county, bluegrass and gospel music, taking scenic drives and watching professional tennis matches on TV. She retired from Continental TEVES in the Quality Assurance Department and then worked for Culpeper County Sheriff’s Department as a cook. Above all, she thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Roger Thomas Dodson, Sr.; three children, Wanda Stover and her husband, Michael of Culpeper, Roger Dodson, Jr. and his wife, Carol of Brightwood, and Steven Dodson and his fiancé, Diane of Haywood; three siblings, Edgar Henry and his wife, Rita of Partlow, VA, Yvonne Weakley of Bealeton, and Debra Cregar and her husband, Glenn of Amonate, VA; one brother-in-law, Robert “Bobby” Dodson of Culpeper; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Smoot of Locust Grove and Clara Dodson of Fredericksburg.
Additional survivors include one grandson, Brandon Dodson and his fiancé, Kendra of Haywood; one great granddaughter, MaKayla Duncan of Partlow, VA; one step granddaughter, Tonya Dyer of Brightwood whom also was a special caregiver; one step great granddaughter, Zoey Dyer of Brightwood; her best and very special friend, Rhonda Thomas of Culpeper; her four legged baby Chihuahua, “Pretty” whom she loved dearly and was her constant companion; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Juanita Furry, Arfleeter Moore, Jeanette Woodward and Linda Henry; one beloved grandson, Devin Shane Dodson; one brother-in-law, Doug Dodson; and her cat “Tom Tom” whom she loved immensely.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Brad Hales and Pastor Jojuan White officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Hawkins, Brandon Tharp, John Stover, Matthew Jeansonne, Greg Griffith and Eddie Wayne Griffith.
