Grace Marie Wheat's Obituary
Grace Marie Campbell Wheat, 71 recently of Culpeper, VA and previously of Aiken, SC passed away peacefully on December 28, 2020 at Culpeper Health & Rehabilitation Center, Culpeper, VA. She was born in Alexandria, VA on January 14, 1949 to the late Joseph Cecil and Mary Thorpe Campbell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life for 21 years, William (Bill) H. Wheat and her companion, John Strode.
Grace was raised in Fauquier County and graduated from Fauquier High School in 1967. She received a silver bracelet from Fauquier Hospital when she was 16 in recognition of 763 hours of volunteer work as a candy striper at the hospital. After graduation, Grace went on to complete the LPN program through the University of Virginia and then entered the UVA School of Nursing. Her love of the nursing profession took her South to Humana Hospital – Augusta, GA where she was honored by the Georgia Hospital Association as a nurse who made a tremendous difference in the life of one of her patients. She was selected from among more than 240 registered nurses and LPN’s.
Although forced to give up her nursing profession when diagnosed with MS, she and Bill were able to enjoy traveling to many places in the world before his death. She loved to cook, read, work crossword puzzles and had a real talent for interior design.
Grace is survived by her sisters, Joanne C. Miller of Culpeper and Hilda C. Connor and her husband Joseph M. (Mike) of Culpeper; a niece, Heather K. (Kristy) White and her husband Timothy (Tim) White of Rixeyville; two nephews, Travis J. Miller and Allen K. (Cee) Edwards, both of Culpeper; a great niece, Allie Edwards of Culpeper; and four great nephews, Ross and Ryan White of Rixeyville and Aiden and Joseph Miller, of Culpeper as well cousins and other relatives.
A private service will be held in South Carolina at a later date.
