Gloria Beky Lynch's Obituary
Gloria “Babe” Lynch passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on 12 March 2022. Gloria was born on February 17, 1934 in Trenton, NJ. Her fondest memories are of a youth spent in the parsonage of the Hungarian Reformed Church, where her father was the Reverend Zoltan Beky and summer vacations spent at the family’s beach house in Point Pleasant, NJ. She loved dance and studied ballet and traditional Hungarian dance which she performed for functions within the Hungarian community in Trenton, accompanied by her sister “Muttsko” on the organ.
She graduated from Trenton High School in 1951 and received her degree in physical education from Trenton State in 1955 and was part of a competitive dance group throughout college.
Gloria had two children, Rob and Eva Day, by her first marriage to Bob Day in 1955 and became stepmother to John Lynch upon her second marriage to Colonel Hugh J Lynch in 1969.
Throughout the years, Babe worked as a substitute physical education teacher, and spent two years as a real estate agent, but her favorite hobby was cooking. She collected recipe books and enjoyed turning out healthy, creative dishes. While the family was stationed in Belgium from 1975 to 1978, Babe plunged into French cuisine and hosted many elegant dinner functions for Hugh’s military colleagues from MAAG.
Back stateside in the Riverwood neighborhood in Alexandria, VA, she and Hugh hosted an annual party in December for Hugh’s birthday that became legendary for great food and fellowship.
She is survived by her children Rob Day and Eva Day, step-son John Lynch, and grandchildren Ashley Lynch and Taylor Lynch, nephew Walter Parker and niece Lori Parker both of Spotsylvania, VA. She is predeceased by her parents Reverend Zoltan and Margaret Beky, husband Hugh, sister Margaret, and nephew James Parker.
A memorial service will be held at the Hungarian Reformed Church of Trenton, NJ on Friday May 6 at 11:30am.
