Gloria "Jean" (Perry) Herndon's Obituary
Gloria “Jean” (Perry) Herndon, of Fredericksburg, VA was born in the living room of 1614 Caroline Street on December 27, 1943.
Jean met her now deceased husband, Melvin Ronald “Ronnie” Herndon in the 8th grade in 1957 and they were married in 1961.
She is survived by her son, Timothy S. Herndon; grandchildren, Brennan Hunter Bantz and Aidan Alexandra Herndon; her great-granddaughter, Margot Antoinette Kufs; and her sister, Susan “Sue” Victoria (Perry) Surles. Jean lived devoted to her family.
Jean raised her son and was a housewife. She eventually took a job working in the cafeteria at Battlefield Intermediate. I still believe she did this to keep an eye on me and to remain close by! She later worked at Norfleet Mulch Product in the office for years until she retired.
My mother, was the most tender, kind, giving, silly, sweet hearted person that I have ever met in my 57 years of life. She as well as my dad were very special people. One of the things most endearing about them, was that they thought they were ordinary. Their unconditional love, strength and character was unmatched. They were most extraordinary. The flowers throughout Mom’s year were pieces from other plants from spring to come so that she could see them open up and bloom again. She could tell you from who and where they all came from. They were monuments of her family. She loved and cared for them all. It was beautiful, especially now that I’m of the age where I understand what she saw in all of those blooms every year.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025 (which would have been her 82nd Birthday) at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, where a funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. All family and friends are welcome.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 in Oak Hill Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Ronnie. All family and friends are welcome.
