G. Lance Smith's Obituary
Gerald “Lance” Smith, Jr. of Fredericksburg, VA and Bennettsville, SC died suddenly of a massive heart attack on Saturday, January 9, 2010.
Lance was born in Chesterfield, SC on February 13, 1951 to Marolyn Threadgill Smith and Gerald Lance Smith. He graduated from Bennettsville High School in 1969. For the past 10 years, Lance worked for Continental Field Service on several high profile ventures including the “mixing bowl” and Woodrow Wilson Bridge projects.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Leslie Cummings (Ron) of Wallace, SC, Robbie Smith (Lori) of Bennettsville, SC; 3 precious grandchildren, Dylan Cummings, Kaylee Smith, Ford Smith; his mother, Marolyn Smith of Manassas, VA; his sister, Wanda Najjar (Larry Sanchez); a niece, Tara Davis (Jesse) and nephew, E. Ryan Najjar; great niece, Grace Davis; Great nephew, Dilan Najjar; several cousins, many good friends and his “pretty little puppy dog Chewy Louie”.
Lance had a wide circle of friends extending across several states. He lived life to its fullest. He loved everybody, especially his family. Lance never met a stranger. Lance loved cheeseburgers, golf, NMB, shagging at SOS, the Dallas Cowboys always “Go ‘Cocks!” We already miss him terribly!
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 4:00 pm at Christian Fellowship Church, 1615 Hwy 38 S, Bennettsville, SC.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 in honor of his parents.
