Gladys Marie Jenkins Compton's Obituary
Gladys Marie Jenkins Compton, 80, of Rixeyville died Thursday, September 6, 2007 at her residence. She was born December 29, 1926 in Orange, VA to the late McKinley and Esther Dodson Jenkins.
Mrs. Compton loved her Lord and reading her bible. She enjoyed working in her garden and tending to her flowers but most of all she loved her family especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by three children, Lawrence Otis Compton, Jr. “Sonny” and his wife, Donna of Rixeyville, Esther M. Raub of Rixeyville, and Frances M. Clark and her significant other, George E. Gibson of Jeffersonton, five sisters, Betty Lou Gore, Ella Gore, Frances Ryan, Shirley Dodson, and Katherine Estes, and three brothers, Roy Jenkins, Sam Jenkins, and McKinley Jenkins, Jr.
Additional survivors include six grandchildren, Melissa Hoffman, Brian Raub, Cassie Clark, Kelly Rance, Daniel Compton, and Ryan Compton, and three great grandchildren, Dillon and Davis Hoffman, and Austin Rance.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Otis Compton, Sr., a daughter, Sally Ann Compton, a son-in-law, James T. Clark, grandson, Daniel L. Clark, brother, Hugh Vern Jenkins, sister, Lucy Johnson, and her brother-in-law, Amond Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 9, 2007 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 10, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. J.C. Yount officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Christopher L. Whorton, Michael W. Rance, Junior Corbin, Garland Estes, Sam Jenkins, Jr., and Don Jenkins.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hospice of the Rapidan, P.O. Box 1715, Culpeper, VA 22701.
