Gerald A. Hoyt's Obituary
Gerald A. Hoyt, of Culpeper passed to his home in glory on Monday, May 5, 2014. He was born on November 8, 1945 to George Nelson Hoyt and Bertha Painter Hoyt.
He enjoyed 32 years of employment with RUS/Omni Services, serving as its IT Director upon retirement, and then as administrator of Heritage Child Development Center, where he was affectionately known as “Mr. Jerry.”
He was a member of Hazel River Church where he served as teacher, honorary deacon, trustee, and worship leader and previously served in several capacities at Family Community Church for many years. Jerry was known for his quick wit, easy-going nature, love of people and servant’s heart.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty McAllister Hoyt; his children, Lisa H. Dodson and her husband, Rev. Steve Dodson of Boston, VA, Stephen Yoder and his wife, Hilary of Scott, Ohio and Mark A. Hoyt of NY; his brothers, Ronald P. Hoyt and his wife, Shirley of Culpeper and David P. Hoyt and his wife, Kim of Mechanicsville; grandchildren, Rev. Bethany Carlson and her husband, Jared of Culpeper and Rev. Steve Dodson, III and his wife, Nicole of Boston; as well as a number of very special nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Beth Hoyt.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 8 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 9 at 11am at Hazel River Church with Rev. Steve Dodson officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
