George S. Day's Obituary
George S. Day, 90, of Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community, Culpeper, VA, died May 22, 2008 at Culpeper Regional Hospital.
George was a retired Major in the U.S. Air Force, Department of Defense, and Office of Chief of Naval Operations. His honorable service to our country began when he reported to duty with the U.S. Army. His military service included pilot training and instructor duties in the Army and later during the Korean War was an aircraft controller with the U.S.A.F. Vice Admiral U.S. Navy wrote at his retirement “Throughout the years of your knowledge and experience in air traffic control and air space matters, your expertise has made a significant contribution to the safe operations of naval aircraft. Your loyalty, reliability, and conscientious performance have always been the hallmarks of your service, and will be long remembered by your associates.” George loved being a faithful member in the Mitchells Presbyterian Church choir, and spent many hours building and flying model airplanes with his grandson.
Surviving George is his loving wife of 64 years, Louise Day also of the Baptist Retirement Community in Culpeper, VA, his children: daughter, Sue Smith and husband Fred, son, George “Eddie” Day all of Rhoadesville, VA, grandson, David Fones and wife Christy of Mechanicsville, VA, niece, Kathy Shriner and husband Larry of Upton, Kentucky, nephew, Danny Day and wife Felicia of Arlington, VA, niece, Barbara Day of Arlington, VA, sisters-in-law, Alice Loyd of Culpeper, VA and Margaret Day of Lake Ridge, VA.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Mitchells Presbyterian Church in Mitchells, VA with Pastor John Grotz officiating.
Interment in church graveside will immediately follow.
The family will receive friends after the services in the church Fellowship Hall.
