George Denver Paxson Jr.'s Obituary
George Denver Paxson Jr. of Stafford County, Virginia passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025 in Fredericksburg, VA.
George was born to Colonel George Paxson (U.S. Army) and Alice Paxson on 26 October 1940 in Thurmont, MD. He accompanied his family to various duty stations across the U.S. and Europe before returning home to attend Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmittsburg, MD, where he earned a B.S. in Accounting and Economics in 1964.
Upon graduation, George served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967 where he obtained the rank of Captain. Upon separation from active service, George accepted a civilian position with the Department of the Army and spent 38 years working at the Pentagon before retiring from the civil service in 2003. Following retirement, George followed his passion for the water and sailing by taking a position as a manager with the Aquia Bay Marina.
George moved to Stafford County in 1981 and was a vibrant member of the local community. He was a member of the West Stafford Ruritan Club, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, Virginia Society, and attended the Mount Ararat Baptist Church. He volunteered for the Stafford County Fire Department, The Towing Panel, The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Unit, and spoke as needed to the Board of Supervisors.
George leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Joan Paxson; daughters, Raie Paxson and Erin Hottendorf (Kirk); son, Justice Paxson (Malorie); grandchildren, Anna and William Hottendorf, and Lincoln and Colin Paxson, all of Virginia; and nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Boone, Sarah "Sally" Trumbower, and Mary Patricia Paxson; and son, Matthew Paxson.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA, where a memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
