George L. Freeman Jr.'s Obituary
George L. Freeman, Jr., 91, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022.
George was born on March 3, 1931 in the Town of Culpeper, Virginia in his family home on East Street. He was the son of the late Sally Belle (Thomas) Freeman of Culpeper and George Lynnwood Freeman of nearby Salem.
George graduated from Culpeper High School in 1949 and Virginia Tech in 1953. After serving in the United States Army for two years, he completed law school at the University of Virginia by which time he had two children. George passed the bar exam a year prior to graduating from law school, illustrating his grasp of and love for the field of Law. First working as a lawyer for the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office in Fairfax, Virginia, he then went into private practice for fifty years as a Criminal Defense Attorney.
A supporter of Virginia Tech Athletics, he became a full endowed scholarship donor to the Virginia Tech Golf Program. George loved playing golf and traveling. More than anything, an avid extrovert, he loved people.
George L. Freeman, Jr., as he identified himself was preceded in death by his wife, Carole; sister, Helen Gray Sudduth; and granddaughter, Brooke.
George is survived by Carole’s daughter, Theresa Marcolini (Mike), and their children, Connor, Morgan, and Ryan; He is survived by his three children, George III, Jan Price, Anne Lancaster; five grandchildren, George IV, Christina, Byron, Jackie, Joshua; and great granddaughter, Joshua’s daughter, Mimi.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 S. West St. Culpeper, VA 22701. A reception will follow the service at 3 PM at Culpeper Country Club, 2100 Country Club Rd. Culpeper, VA 22701.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Culpeper National Cemetery at a later date.
