George Melvin Chandler's Obituary
George Melvin Chandler, 71, of Rapidan died Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Novant Health UVA Health System Culpeper Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1945 in Rapidan to the late Gillis and Gladys Morton Chandler.
Mr. Chandler enjoyed farming, livestock, gardening and fishing.
He is survived by five children, Glen Herndon of Manassas, Tamatha Roy of Northern Virginia, Tremaine Thompson of Rapidan, Nathaniel Thompson of Rapidan, and Shawn Jackson of Portland, MA; his fiancé, Doretha Thompson of Rapidan; and two grandchildren, Keola Thompson and Darrian Herndon.
Additional survivors include six siblings, Elnor Tonge and her husband, William of Rapidan, Irene Walker of Rapidan, Celia Hanks and her husband, Melvin of Henderson, NC, Gillis Chandler, Jr. and his wife, Rosa of Rapidan, Jerry Chandler and his wife Ruth of Unionville, and Carl Chandler and his wife, Yolanda of Orange; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Rev. Frank Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
