George William Alther's Obituary
George (Billy, Moten, Fluffy, Old Fool) William Alther, 78, of Madison, VA, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at his residence. He was born November 6, 1946, to the late Jonas Alther and Louise Jenkins Alther in Rappahannock, VA.
George is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Phillips Alther; children, Lisa Gayle Alther Shipe (Charles), William Braden Alther, George William Alther (Jessica), and Jeffrey Paul Alther (Jean); grandchildren, Samantha, Charley, Johnny, Maegan, Jeffrey, Amaya, Ally, and Wesley; numerous great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kelsey; sisters, Marie Brown, Rebecca Menefee, and Annie Bell Jeffries; and his brother, Jonas Alther, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 12 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens, 4160 Rixeyville Road, Jeffersonton, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Medi Home Hospice in George’s name.
