Gary Allen Payne's Obituary
Gary Allen Payne, age 80, died peacefully in his sleep on May 12, 2019 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. Formerly of Culpeper, VA, he was born in Mount Hope, WV on November 8, 1938 to Grace Ellen (Adams) Payne Krassnosky and Sturgess Allen Payne. As a youth, Gary lived in Hollsopple, PA where he attended and graduated from nearby Conemaugh Township High School.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Marjorie Rachel (Bowers) Payne, born August 15, 1940 and passed away at home on October 22, 1995 at the age of 55 and son Loni Wayne Payne who died in a car accident at the age of 23. He was also predeceased by sister in law Darlene (Bowers) Zelenak and husband Paul, sister in law Glenda Payne, and brothers John and Ken Payne.
For over 30 years Gary owned and operated his own painting and wallpaper business. In his later years, he worked as a service technician for Quarles Oil Company. Gary enjoyed fishing, golfing, tennis, and traveling across the United States including visiting many of the National Parks. He was the family genealogist and enjoyed tracing the Payne lineage back many generations. His other hobbies included square dancing, photography and film development, and playing poker and pinochle.
He is survived by his son Gary C. (Lisa Mehall) Payne of Culpeper, VA, grandchildren Nicole (Ryan) Adam of Defiance, Ohio, Jacqueline Payne (Chris Page) of Culpeper, VA, James (Rebekah Sine) Payne of Martinsburg, WV and great grandsons Daniel and Henry Adam of Defiance, Ohio.
He is survived by sister Shirley (late Steve) Bender of Manassas, VA, brothers Jim (late Dorthy) Payne (Betty) of Hollsopple, PA, and Mike Krassnosky. Survived also by sisters in law Martha Jo (late John) Payne, Luvinnia "Lulu" (late Ken) Payne and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 16, at 4:00 pm at Belvoir Assembly of God, 4180 Belvoir Road, Marshall, VA with Rev. Dr. Billy Tatum officiating.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper, Va.
