I am now just aware of john's passing. Please accept my belated deepest sympathy and condolences. I was John's assistant weapons officer and special weapons officer on board USS Fulton (AS-11) 1979/80. He was a great naval officer and family man from whom I learned much. We also shared many funny moments on one of our voyages to Halifax and prepping for our many inspections. We were a great team. Fair winds and following seas my friend.
Shipmate, you stand relieved...we have the watch. Relieved by those you have led, guided, and trained. Sailor, rest your oar.

As an aside, I was good friends and served with Captain James Hollaway, CO of USS Oklahoma City (SSN-723) with whom I believe John Jr served.

Peggy and Family,

I miss John! Even though we've only recently seen each other once or twice a year, I miss John!

My memories go directly to Rose Lake. John and I spent so many days together. We swam, sailed,skied and SCUBA dove together. We wrestled each other frequently. I can remember my mother telling me John would never win because as soon as we started, he would begin laughing. He would laugh so hard he couldn't defend himself. The laugh...what a wonderful legacy. His life was always a happy place and you just wanted to be around him hoping that some of his joy would rub off on you.

I miss John!
