Garnett Galyen
Garnett William Galyen, 81, of Bowling Green passed away, Thursday, December 13, 2007 after succumbing to injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Saturday, December 8, 2007. He was born in Helen, West Virginia to the late Irdle Estes and Margaret Evelyn Galyen.
He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during World War II. He graduated from Mary Washington College after receiving a B.S. in Chemistry in 1954 and then went to work for the American Viscose Plant for about seven years, where he was a chemist. After leaving American Viscose, he was self-employed in the building and construction business for the rest of his life.
Garnett is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris K. Galyen; two daughters, E. Rae Ramsey and Sarah M. Coughenour, both of Caroline County; a son, G. Dale Galyen of King George County; his grandchildren, Kate Burrell, Patrick Galyen, Courtney Ramsey, Shannon Harris, Byrian Coughenour, John Coughenour and Jessica Coughenour; great grandchildren, Christian and Georgia; three sisters, Evelyn Foltz of Spotsylvania County, Rena Brooks and Glenna Parker, both of Richmond; two brothers, Arnold Galyen and Vernon Galyen, both of Spotsylvania County and several nieces and nephews.
Garnett was the oldest of eight children. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Gay and a brother, Norman Galyen.
