Fred Garland Scott's Obituary
Fred Garland Scott, 91, of Culpeper died Friday, July 18, 2008 at his residence. He was born January 18, 1917 in Franklin County, Virginia to the late Walter Scott and Sally Peters Scott.
Fred was a member of Alum Springs Baptist Church. He is remembered as a hard worker who applied his skills to many professions throughout his life. He owned and operated Scott’s Grocery for 38 years and also had a successful firewood business.
He was an avid gardener and particularly enjoyed strawberry season each year.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Judd Scott, and a son, Delmo G. Scott and his wife, Betty, of Bassett, Virginia. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Wayne Scott, Jr. and his wife, Erica, of Culpeper, Dale Scott and his wife, Phyllis, of Stuart, Virginia, Tammy Branscome and her husband, Greg, of Collinsville, Virginia, Marie Dean and her husband, Mike, of Danville, and Janet Brown, also of Danville, and Sandra Settle of Culpeper.
Additional survivors include two sisters, Elma Young and Nellie Rakes, both of Ferrum, Virginia, and two brothers, Leo Scott of Ferrum and W. B. Scott of Burkeville, Virginia. Other survivors include a number of great- and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two daughters, Frances Chaney and Glenda Brinkley, and one son, Wayne Scott, Sr.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 21, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Virginia
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m in the Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. John Miller officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ron Horn, Robert Woodard, J.P. Woodard, Jr., Billy Barnes, Charles Pullen and Dale Woods.
