Frederick Douglas Gray, Sr.'s Obituary
Frederick Douglas Gray, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at his home with his loving wife, Jean at his bedside. He was born on March 27, 1931 in Culpeper, VA. He was the son of the the late Ruby W. and John Henry Gray, Sr.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Verna L. Ferris-Gray; two sons, Frederick D. Gray Jr. and James Edward Brock, Jr.; and five siblings, Katherine Yager, Frances Brown-Byrd, Minnie Turner, John Henry Gray, Jr., and Tommie Gray, Sr.
Doug as he was affectionately called, is survived by wife, Jean B. Gray; one sister, Audrey Washington of Culpeper VA; his children, Linda Gray of Culpeper, VA, Rodney Gray of Farmville, VA, Peyton Brock of Culpeper, VA, and Dorothy A. Brock of Texas; three grandchildren, Frederick D. Gray III, Thomas Gray (Shahidai), both of VA Beach, and Letitia Jenkins (Jay) of Culpeper, VA; three great-grandchildren, Imanirose Gray, Trinity and Destiny Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other family members and friends.
Doug was married to his first wife Verna L. Ferris-Gray for 40 years until her passing. Doug married Jean, Dec. 24, 1992 and they have been married for 24 blessed years. Doug was a long time member of the Trustee Ministry of Antioch Baptist Church he also was a member of the Masons of Culpeper. He worked at the Federal Reserve Bank until he retired in 1995.
Doug was loved by all who were in his presence. He was always willing to help anyone. He loved to sit and read the newspaper and drink coffee with his wife and 2 great-granddaughter at times. Doug enjoyed traveling with his wife visiting family and friends until his health started to fail. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, 202 S. West St., Culpeper with Rev. Adrian D. Sledge officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
