Frederic Peter Hoppe's Obituary
Frederic Peter Hoppe, 86, of Martinsburg, WV, passed away on August 1, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg.
Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Hoppe, was drafted into the Army in 1943. He participated in four campaigns in Northern France and Belgium from July 1944 until January 1945. He was wounded at St. Lo in July 1944 and captured during the Battle of the Bulge in January of 1945. He spent the rest of the war being shuffled around between different POW camps.
Formerly of Yeadon, during high school Mr. Hoppe played xylophone and drums in his own band. After the war, he worked many years for Atlantic Richfield in Philadelphia in the cracking department. He was an excellent amateur artist, and his passion was Big Band and jazz music. Mr. Hoppe spent the last 25 years of his life in Martinsburg. He was the son of the late Frederic and Gertrude Hoppe (Eichman) and brother of the late Herbert Hoppe.
Survivors include daughters, Carole Levine of Woodland Hills, CA, Catherine Scrivano of Los Altos, CA, Barbara Curry of Chantilly, VA; sons, Frederic Hoppe of El Dorado Hills, CA, Steven Hoppe of Tallahassee, FL; 10 grandchildren; one great-grand child.
Mass will be held Monday, September 27, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the Old Chapel, Ft Myer, VA.
Interment will be on Monday, September 27, 2010 at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. Found and Sons Lee Funeral Chapel of Manassas, VA is handling the arrangements.
