Morris W. Peters
It was my honor to be able to attend 1SG Fred Ricker's funeral Saturday at his home church, which was only a few hundred yards from his residence in Richardsville. There he was born and died, in the same house he grew up in. Little can be said that would exceed his true patriotism to this nation. He joined the Army during World War II, stayed on through the Korean and Vietnam Wars, then retired after thirty years of continuous service to his country. He came home and stayed in the community for the rest of his life. A color guard with American flags lined the front walk of the church, which seemed so very fitting. I was pleased to be able to express my heartfelt thanks to a genuine defender of this nation. May he rest in peace forevermore and for soldiers like him who gave so much to his country, we too can rest in peace in this country tonight.
