Frank J. Taschler, Jr.'s Obituary
Frank J. Taschler, Jr., 77, anchored a beautiful family and built a lovely home with his wife Jackie of 52 years. He was with his family as he passed away peacefully Friday, October 20, 2017. He has forever left a legacy of thoughtfulness, faith, and strength to his daughters Amy Taschler Snyder (Steven Snyder) and Paula Taschler (Bill Wilson). He is remembered by his grandchildren for his deep involvement in, and joy he brought to, their lives: Bailey Wilson, Aaron Snyder, Jordan Wilson, and Mia Snyder.
Frank grew up in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh, PA with his loving parents Jean and Frank Taschler, Sr (both deceased) and sisters Kathryn Marc, Marge Lehner (Jim), and Martha Banholzer. Frank was known for being a serious prankster. He played baseball, enjoyed comics and the movie theater, was an altar boy at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, rode the streetcar to school, listened to the radio, and loved playing with his friends in the neighborhood. Frank attended University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering while also participating in R.O.T.C..
Upon graduation, Frank served in the U.S. Army 43rd Artillery Missile Battalion as a fire control platoon leader in Fort Bliss, TX and Lumberton, NJ and was on a high alert during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following active duty, he served additional years in the Army Reserves. He loved the military and his Country. He would always end Thanksgiving prayers with, “Give thanks to God for being born in the USA.”
For most of his career, Frank worked for Union Carbide Corporation (LINDE), managing production, distribution, sales, and marketing of industrial gases used in manufacturing and hospitals. Frank could drive a big rig if he had to, partnered with union leaders, and made his leadership mark in management. His work took him and Jackie from Bethel Park to Boston, Chicago, and then ultimately Cleveland where they lived for 37 years in the Lake Erie town of Bay Village. There, the Taschlers were long time parishioners of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, along with Carmen and Val Osinski, Jackie’s parents who loved Frank dearly. Frank was a fan of the Cleveland sports teams with equal gusto to his Pittsburgh teams, certainly conflicted when they went head to head.
In recent years, Frank and Jackie moved to Culpeper, VA to be close to their daughters and their families. Frank was a war history buff and an avid reader of fiction and non-fiction. He enjoyed watching old movies, listening to music in the home, and was an excellent dance partner. His lifetime favorites were Elvis, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and Abba; along with country, cowboy, and bluegrass music.
Frank is deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was always one to show deep interest in our lives, work, and families. His legacy of a loving and giving heart lives on forever.
