Francis Edward Eak's Obituary
Francis “Frank” E. Eak, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2022 at home with his family by his side.
Frank was born in Jersey City, NJ, and raised in New Jersey, as well as Zweibrücken, Germany, and Virginia Beach, VA where he graduated in the First Colonial High School Class of 1973. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1977, where he met his devoted and loving wife of 45 years, Sharon. Frank and Sharon then resided in King George County, where he spent over 40 years supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, as a defense contractor in the field of Combat and Weapon Systems Safety. After retiring, he and Sharon moved to Spotsylvania, VA, where they spent time traveling the country via RV, camping with their family.
As an alum, Frank was an avid fan of Virginia Tech, in both athletics and academics. He has been involved with the Fredericksburg Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association for years. Frank spent decades singing in the Peace Lutheran Church Choir, and more recently, the Christ Lutheran Church Choir, and the Virginia Heritage Singers group. Frank enjoyed going to baseball games, and helped to coach and keep score for nearly every baseball game his son played from t-ball through high school. Frank also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and camping. More than all of these, Frank loved his family and friends.
Frank is survived by his wife, Sharon Eak; his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Gwen Eak; along with his two granddaughters, Amelia and Larkin of Ashland, VA; brother, Michael Eak of St. Petersburg FL; sister, Georgienne Trauscht of St. Petersburg, FL; brother, Robert Eak and his wife, Lisa Darlington of Westfield, MA; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis E. Eak, II, and Patricia K. Eak.
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at 2PM on December 7, 2022, at Christ Lutheran Church, 1300 Augustine Avenue, Fredericksburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Frank’s memory to the Virginia Tech Alumni Association, Fredericksburg Chapter, Scholarship Fund by clicking ‘Donate’ at the bottom of this page (https://fredericksburghokies.com/about/), or the American Cancer Society, Brain Research. The family will be establishing a memorial scholarship fund in Frank’s name with the Fredericksburg Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association.
