Forrest E. Miller's Obituary
Forrest E. “Buff” Miller of Culpeper, VA, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026. He was 90 years old. Born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, on July 17, 1935, Buff graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. It was there that he met his wife, Nancy Crane Mustard, on a blind date. The couple married on August 20, 1960, and made their home in Michigan before soon relocating to Bethesda, MD.
Buff began working with IBM in 1965 and would continue working there until his retirement in 1992. Due to multiple assignments, Buff and Nancy relocated often, moving from Bethesda to Mt. Airy, MD, Opal, VA, Gaithersburg, MD, and Austin, TX. Soon after retirement, the couple moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, where they would reside for nearly 30 years. Buff enjoyed spending time with Nancy and his family. When children and grandchildren visited, it often meant fierce putt–putt competitions or relaxing on the beach while the little ones played in the sand and sea. And no day was complete without a visit to the local ice cream shop to cool down.
One of Buff’s favorite pastimes was working with model and remote-control airplanes. He would spend hours in the garage working on his planes or building planes for others. He competed in flying contests and enjoyed hanging out with his friends at the field, talking and flying.
Buff is survived by three sons, Jeff (Janice) and Jim (Valerie), of Jeffersonton, VA, and
Christopher (Kimberly), of Chester, MD; his brothers John Waldon Miller (Midge) of North Carolina; Keith Stafford (Grace), of Michigan, and Bill Miller of Colorado. Buff is also survived by six grandchildren, three great–grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Nancy, his loving and patient wife of 62 years, and his parents, John Miller and Margaret Stafford.
Buff will be missed by so many. His dry wit and wry smile will be remembered fondly by all who knew him well.
