Faye Okerson's Obituary
Faye Okerson, 71, of Fredericksburg died Thursday, November 30, 2006.
Faye was born May 3, 1935. She was the daughter of Willard and Eleanor Strand Okerson. Faye is survived by three sisters, Lynn Okerson of Spotsylvania County, Ann Dessault and her husband, Robert, of Anacortes, Wash., Kathy Knackstedt and her husband, Mark, of Temperance, Mich; a brother, John Okerson of Newport, Ky.; four nieces; four nephews; and a long-time family friend, Edna Roughly of Fredericksburg. She was predeceased by her parents.
Faye graduated from New Trier High School in Illinois, from Waldorf Junior College in Iowa nd from Michigan State Univerity. Faye worked for many years at Augustana Hospital in Chicago as the director of volunteers. She also worked with the Red Cross in Sarasota, Fla., for a time. She was active in her church and was directly involved in many social programs in Chicago, including heading up the Head Start Program, and similar efforts in the surrounding areas. Uponmoving to Virginia, she became the principle caregiver for her parents, loved helping and being with children, was a very special friend to many and attended churches in Stafford County and King George County. Her high school motto was, To commit minds to inquiry, hearts to compassion, and lives to service of humanity. This she surely lived up to. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held December 5, 2006 at 7:00 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Home, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Harland White of Grace Memorial Church officiating.
