Faye Burke Hoskins' Obituary
Faye Burke Hoskins, 78, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at her home in Culpeper, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 8, 1947, in Warrenton, VA to the late Joseph Burrell and Doris B. Burke of Boston, Virginia. She had many happy memories of growing up on the family farm with a large extended family and close friends.
Faye attended Culpeper County High School graduating as salutatorian in 1965, and from there started what would be a long and successful career with C&P Telephone Co. She enjoyed working and learning, taking every class and opportunity offered to learn something new. She met the love of her life, Bernard Hoskins while skating and they married on January 13, 1973. They lovingly built their family together for over 39 years.
Faye was a beloved mother, Mimi, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to so many.
She grew up going to church at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Boston, VA. Faye would always be up and ready for Sunday School and Church on Sunday morning, and was proud of her perfect attendance when she was young and, she passed that on to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed their church family until health issues prevented her from attending.
Faye devoted her life and heart to her family. She truly enjoyed and cared about the people around her. Nothing made Faye happier than having friends and family around, talking and sharing stories.
She enjoyed spending time with her daughter, Suzanne, reading, shopping, watching soap operas, taking family vacations, and watching her grandson Austin’s baseball games. "Mimi” did not hesitate to travel to any game, no matter how far, from little league through college. She became very close with some of the baseball team families and became known as their Mimi, too. She adored her grandson since the day he arrived and was always his biggest fan.
Faye always had a ready smile, a shoulder to lean on, and good advice to offer. She was particularly proud of her last job at the Virginia State Police Headquarters where hers was the first smiling face you would see when you came in the door at Brandy Station for over 12 years.
Faye is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Hoskins; her two bonus sons, Dwayne Ashby Hoskins (Becky) and Christopher Allen Hoskins; her grandchildren, Austin Joseph Stead, Calvin Ray Hoskins, Danial Hoskins, and Jessica Mattice Baker (Joey); and her great-grandchildren, Greylon, Colt, and Ezra.
Additional survivors include her sister-in-law, Joyce Hoskins Pratt (Frank); brothers-in-law Thomas Wayne Hoskins and John Franklin Hoskins; her first cousins, Joyce Burke Bennett (Ebbie), Linda B. Butler, Brenda B. Mills, and Trudy B. Dejarnette (David); and nieces, Carolyn Keithley (Paul), Angela Butler and Tamela Butler; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband, Bernard Hoskins; her dedicated sister, Patricia (Patsy) Burke Butler; and her brother-in-law, Samuel W. Butler.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to her caregivers and medical staff from Hospice of the Piedmont for the loving care and friendship they gave to Faye and Suzanne over the last year.
