Everett Larry Fabian's Obituary
E. Larry Fabian Sr. “Fabe” at the age of 80, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018, as a result of Colon Cancer at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. Born in Meriden Connecticut, he graduated from Enola High School (Enola, PA) in 1955. In High School and at Duke University he was a cheer leader as well as played trumpet in the band. He was honorably discharged from the NROTC program in 1957 due to getting married.
He was married to his 1st wife S. Ruth Fabian in 1957 for 39 years until her passing of cancer in 1996. He leaves behind two children from this marriage E. Larry Fabian Jr. and Sharon Fabian. He was preceded in death by his father Marshall E. Fabian, his mother Mary F. Fabian and his sister Shirley Fabian-Flynn.
He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Duke University. After graduating from Duke he went to Wake Forest to get his BA in Physics in 1960. He went to Western Electric’s engineering program in 1961. In 1965 he received his master degree in Physics from Lehigh University. He went to the Business School program at Harvard University. He obtained his goal to become a contract bridge life master. He enjoyed golf, handball, using a coupon, racket ball, fishing, dancing to 50s music, getting his sister to eat a worm, working on older cars, singing (church choir to Elvis songs), car races, casinos, slot machines, puzzles, old games shows, people staying on schedule, photography, playing “Alley Cat” on the piano and not being rushed at a good seafood buffet.
He worked for several companies and agencies during his lifetime, starting by working for his father’s appliance store and broadcasting from their ham radio station. He was a technical copy writer at Bell Labs. He worked for Magnavox Government & Industrial Electronics Company both in Ft Wayne, IN and Washington DC as their government contract representative. As a civilian he worked for the US Navy within NAVAIR and SPAWAR, retiring in 2006 from Government Services. He then went back to school again and became a financial advisor.
In February 1997 he married his current wife Doralee Fabian. She has three children Tammy Heflin, Jeff Pearson and Kim Foley. Just short of their 21st anniversary, he leaves behind the entire blended family which was created by this marriage to include: his wife, all of their collective children, spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members.
After retiring he enjoyed traveling with his wife to Las Vegas and Charlestown and having the time to attend many family events and celebrations. Many home improvement jobs for himself as well as many of his family members, seemed to keep him busy after retiring from the “desk jobs”. From walkways and decks to goat fences and fire pits he was always keeping busy.
He will begin resting beside his parents on the hill overlooking the little lake in the Rose Garden Section at Alamance Memorial Park located in Burlington, NC. This will be a very small private event.
In accordance with his wishes in lieu of a funeral, a remembrance celebration for all of his friends and family is being scheduled in about a month. He requested that all grieving be done prior to the event so all can enjoy the celebration of what he said was a wonderful life. Please bring great stories! The details will be publicized when arrangements are finalized so that everyone gets his final schedule.
