Evelyn Mae Estes' Obituary
Evelyn Mae Kibler Estes, 88, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. She was born in Rixeyville, VA on May 24, 1924 to the late Lodd Astor and Ollie Virginia Kelley Kibler. She was predeceased by her husband, Ashby Humphries Estes in 1960. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Orville and Aldine Kibler, and her sister, Geneva Compton.
She graduated from Culpeper County High School in 1942, was married in 1943, and began her family in September 1944. She was a life-long member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Piano lessons which began in elementary school resulted in becoming organist for St. Luke’s for decades. She drove a school bus for Culpeper County Schools from 1951 for 38 years and managed Farmington Elementary School’s cafeteria until retirement in 1991. She enjoyed cooking, flower and vegetable gardening, crocheting, quilting, and caring for others who were in need. She felt her greatest accomplishment in life was her three girls.
She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, and held special memories of trips to Hawaii, touring cross country, and annual weekend birthday celebration trips with her girls later in life.
Evelyn is survived by three daughters, Arline Estes Brown and her husband, David of Brandy Station, Rae Estes Pilgrim and her husband, David of Culpeper and Kyle Estes Clements and her husband, Raymond of Richmond. Also surviving her are two grandchildren, Kelly Brown Kern and her husband, Troy and Christopher Morgan Brown and his wife, Ruth, and seven great grandchildren, Timothy, Morgan and Mariella Kern, Nathan and Jacob Brown and Dalton and Taylor Dawson.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 4 to 6 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, October 15, 2012 at 11 am at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Kate Costa officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 1200 Old Rixeyville Rd., Culpeper, VA 22701 or a charity of your choice.
