Eugene "Gene" Lanier Fox's Obituary
Eugene “Gene” Lanier Fox, 77, of Culpeper died at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. He was born March 1, 1947 in Alexandria, VA to the late Eugene Fox, Sr. and Katherine Fox.
Gene attended Bridge Community Church. He was a veteran of the US Army, and retired from the US Secret Service after 36 dedicated years. Gene was quick witted and the king of “one liners”, especially while playing cards. He loved playing golf and reclining in his favorite chair while sipping on bourbon watching the Washington Nationals and HGTV. Though he dreaded the journey, he loved the destination going to the beach with family and cruising with friends.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Doris Fox; three children, Kimberly Fox-King (Eric), Lori Irwin (Chris), and Matthew Fox (Anna); two stepchildren, Shane Smoot (Danielle) and Bree Smoot; six grandchildren, Nathan Hoffman, Jeremy Hoffman, Connor Irwin, Maverick Fox, Levi Fox, and Erik Smoot (Rebecca); three great-grandchildren, Adelyn Hoffman, Ella Smoot, and Jase Smoot; and two siblings, Larry Fox (Sandy) and Edith Fox (Mike).
In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his brother, Lee Fox; and grandson, Cole Smoot.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dave Dooley officiating.
Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 E. Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA. Pallbearers serving the family will be Nathan Hoffman, Jeremy Hoffman, Connor Irwin, Chris Irwin, Shane Smoot, and Billy Ashby.
