Etta Ward Thompson's Obituary
Etta Ward Thompson, 93, of Locust Grove, VA died Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Thompson retired in 1977 from the Administrative Office of the United States Courts where she was Assistant Chief of the Payroll Section. She was active in several patriotic organizations in her native Maryland until the past few years. Her affiliations included Organizer and Charter Member of Harmony Hall Chapter of National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she held office as Chaplain. Organizer and Charter Member of Ann of Arrundell Chapter National Society of Colonial Dames of the XXII Century where she was Chairman of Pocahontas Projects. Life member of National Society, Daughters, Founders and Patriots of America, also Life member of the Sons and Daughters of the First Settlers of Newbury Massachusetts. She was Corresponding Secretary of National Society, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Inc. Mrs. Thompson was a Girl Scout Leader, co-leading her daughter's Brownie Troop. She was a Gray Lady of the American Red Cross volunteering her service at George Washington Hospital, Washington D.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ashby L. Thompson, Sr.
Survivors include her daughter, Judith T. Spears and her husband, Roger with whom she made her home, a son, Ashby L. Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Aldie, VA. Five grandsons, Michael L. and his wife, Cindy of Locust Grove, VA, Stephen T. Spears of Locust Grove, VA, Ashby L. III and his wife, Cathy of Warrenton, VA, Wesley C. and his wife, Anne of Berryville, VA and Earl W. Thompson and his wife, Heather of Aldie, VA and nine great-grandchildren.
