Erma Lucile Miles' Obituary
ERMA LUCILE (ELMS) Miles,100, passed away November 27,2025 at Falls Run Nursing and Rehabilitation, Fredericksburg, Virginia. She was born September 1, 1925 to the late Harry and Lavaughn Elms at their farm in Indianola, Nebraska.
Erma moved with her family to Mound City, Missouri on September 19, 1940 to a farm in the Bellevue community. She graduated from Bellevue School in May 1942. She worked at Miller’s Drug Store until she acquired a job gas rationing during WWII. Erma was the head of that department until WWII was over in 1945. She then worked as a bookkeeper and Chief Telephone Operator at United Telephone Company until her marriage. Erma married Billy Jr. Miles on September 28, 1946 after Billy returned home from serving in the Army. They moved to a farm north of Mound City and later to a farm at Craig.
Erma and Billy were the parents of three children – Karen, Kris and Phil. Erma was a bookkeeper for Dr. Bruce McRae for 17 years. Erma and Billy moved to Virginia in 1990 to be near their children. Erma continued to work as a bookkeeper for Express Auto until she retired in 2010.
Erma is survived by her daughter, Kris Taylor (Stewart) of Fredericksburg; son, Phil Miles (Nancy) of Culpeper; eight grandchildren, Niki Moore and Kody (Jennifer) Taylor of Fredericksburg, David (Anna Marie), Darin and Jeff Miles of Kansas City, MO, and Lia Sisson, and Chaz and Colton Miles of Orange, VA; 13 great-grandchildren, Kerry, Kendall, Drake, Evan, Lindsey, Brittany, Ashli, J R, Brody, Cooper, Kruz, Breken, and Maggie; and one great-great-grandson, Blayden.
Erma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Jr. Miles; daughter, Karen Perkins; three grandchildren; her brothers and their wives, Kenneth (Eileen) Elms, Wayne (Joan) Elms and Lynn (Norma Jean) Elms; and her sister, Evelyn Boston.
Erma enjoyed being with her family, putting puzzles together, working crossword puzzles and reading. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother always putting her family first.
A graveside service will be in the spring of 2026 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City, Missouri.
