Eric Colliam Hedgpeth's Obituary
Eric Colliam Hedgpeth, a beloved son, brother, and friend, peacefully transitioned on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the age of 66. He was surrounded by his mother and loving family at Poplar Hills Rehabilitation Center in Warrenton, Virginia.
Born on September 11, 1959, in Washington, D.C., Eric was the son of Laurie Hedgpeth and the late Verne Hedgpeth, Sr. He was one of four brothers. Eric accepted Christ at an early age and carried a deep compassion for the homeless and downtrodden throughout his life. His love for God was unwavering, and his devotion to his family was constant.
His educational journey began at Assumption Catholic School, where he served faithfully as an altar boy. He later attended St. Anthony’s High School, where he ran track, and was also an active member of the Boy Scouts.
Eric’s faith was central to his life. As a member of Christian Fellowship Assembly in Maryland, he was actively involved in the Evangelistic Ministry, where he found great joy in encouraging others and sharing the love of Christ—especially with those in need.
Professionally, Eric held various roles, including work in food service, telemarketing—where he developed skills in several languages—building maintenance for the federal government, and service as a Special Police Security Officer.
A man of many talents, Eric was a skilled martial artist and Kung-Fu instructor, specializing in broad swords. He loved knowledge, was deeply inquisitive, and enjoyed studying the Bible and the dictionary. He was also an artist, a writer of short stories, and had a great sense of humor that uplifted those around him.
Eric moved to Culpeper to be near and support his parents, a reflection of his humble and generous spirit.
He was preceded in death by his father, Verne Sr. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Laurie, and his brothers Verne Jr. (Yelba), Zachary (Gloria), and Jacques (JuJuan). He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends whose lives he touched deeply.
Eric will be remembered as a man who lived with humility, generosity, and a heart full of love for God and family. His greatest desire was for others to love one another with kindness. His legacy of faith, encouragement, curiosity, humor, and compassion will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
A private memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
