Elsie Marie Harper's Obituary
Elsie Marie Hurlock Harper, 97, of Clear Brook, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at Rose Hill Health and Rehab in Berryville, Virginia. Elsie was born September 8, 1928, at home in Flat Run, Virginia, the daughter of the late James Benjamin and Ruth Green Hurlock.
She married Doan Harper on March 12, 1949, in Culpeper, Virginia, who predeceased her in 2015. Elsie was a baker for Fairfax County Schools many years ago, a manager for Triple R Western Wear, and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved her old-time hymns, her family and church family, and numerous friends and Bingo buddies in the Harrisonburg/Rockingham County area, and was an avid collector of many things. Elsie was a fine Christian who loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Harper and his wife, Sharon of Clear Brook, Virginia; grandchildren, Dustin Harper and his wife, Michelle of Winchester, and Clarissa Noble and husband, Darcy of Winchester, Virginia; great grandchildren, Courteney Rainey and husband, Spencer of Inwood, West Virginia, Logan Harper of Holiday, Florida, Xander Harper of Winchester, Landin Noble of Winchester, and great-great granddaughter, Aurora Harper of Holiday, Florida; sister, Rozelle Neely of Harrisonburg, Virginia and brother, Arthur Hurlock and wife, Bobbie of Centreville, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters, Laura Hall and Frances Shaffer; brothers, Kenneth, William, Hugh, Claude, and James Brittan Hurlock.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 12 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Virginia, with Barry Helmick officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Culpeper.
Pallbearers serving the family will be Jesse Evans, Dustin Harper, Xander Harper, Britt Hurlock, Tommy Hurlock, Barry Helmick, and Jack Hurlock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Galilee Christian Church, 1831 Welltown Rd., Clear Brook, VA 22624.
