Elmer Lee Haines' Obituary
Elmer Lee Haines, Sr., 80, of Culpeper, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026. He was born December 12, 1945 in Rappahannock County, VA to the late John and Viola Haines.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rebecca Haines; two children, David T. Haines (Stephanie), Elmer Lee Haines, Jr. (Shannon); step-children, Mabel Cecil (Richard), Becky Herrera (Pilo), Mercy Perry (Dominic), Zenon Pacheco (Chris), Eugene Pacheco (Cindy) and Margo Pacheco; thirty-eight grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he became a dedicated member of Sumerduck Baptist Church and built a life rooted in hard work, faith, and family.
Elmer was the proud owner and operator of E.L. Haines Roofing for many years, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his craft. After retirement, he continued serving his community by driving for Culpeper Transit, a role he truly enjoyed.
In his free time, Elmer found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved bowling, treating himself to banana splits, and spending time watching sports. Baseball was his game, and he was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees. He also cheered on the New York Giants and followed Duke Blue Devils men's basketball with enthusiasm.
Above all, Elmer will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Though he was a private man, he had a natural way with people and left a lasting impression on those who knew him. His quiet strength, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-son, Joseph A. Pacheco; step-daughter, Hope Laverne and ten siblings, Virginia Hitt, Charles Turner Haynes, John Haines, Jr., William E.
