Ellen Lynn Cottrell's Obituary
Ellen Lynn Cottrell, of Boston, VA, died in her home on Friday, July 20, at the age of 65. A beloved sister, daughter, mother, aunt, wife, and friend, Ellen is survived by her father; her brother John; her daughter Marianne and grandchildren Matthew and Samantha; her niece Tonya-Marie and her nephew Nathaniel. She is also survived by four step-children.
In addition to her mother, Helen, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cottrell, one brother, Frank Van Doren, and one sister, Lydia Van Doren.
Ellen was born to Helen Weibel Van Doren and Fred Earle Van Doren on December 9, 1946, in Somerville, NJ. She graduated from Germanna Community College in 1976. Ellen was a talented, dedicated Registered Nurse, working for more than ten years in that capacity at Culpeper Regional Hospital. From 1969 to 1971, Ellen served her country in the Army, and she was a proud and active member of the American Legion Post 330, where she continued to serve as Adjutant.
Ellen was always busy, she was always learning, and she was always determined; she will be remembered by family, friends, and acquaintances as independent, strong, and not a little stubborn. Ellen took care of us all, and she will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 11 am at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Brad Hales officiating.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524 and American Legion Post 330.
