Ellen Hume Bywaters' Obituary
Ellen Hume Bywaters, 96, of Culpeper died peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community, where she has been a resident since 2001. Ellen was born on May 25, 1918 in Tru Blue, VA to the late Clifton C. and Carrie Crawford Hume.
Ellen was a lifelong Methodist and a member of Jeffersonton United Methodist Church. She was a teacher for the Culpeper County School System for 36 years, having helped educate and mold the minds of the youth of our community.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn B. Knakal of Mechanicsville, VA; two grandchildren; R. Stephen Knakal of Raleigh, NC and Carrie Ellen Headd and her husband Sean of New Market, MD; and one great granddaughter, Kayla Ellen Headd.
In addition to her parents, Ellen is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Doyle “Dick” Bywaters and two sisters, Mary Crawford Crigler and Ruth H. Taylor.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 11am at Jeffersonton United Methodist Church with Pastor Kang Lee Officiating.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Jeffersonton United Methodist Church, 5085 Jeffersonton Rd, Jeffersonton, Virginia 22724 &/or the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the nurses and nursing staff at Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community for their dedication and loving care while she was with them.
