Elizabeth Shields Jessup's Obituary
Elizabeth Shields Jessup, 94, died Friday, September 20, 2013 in Manassas, VA. She was born April 14, 1919 in High Point, NC, one of five children to the late Harvey and Fay Shields.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Ivey Jessup, Jr.; her dear son, Rev. John Ivey Jessup, III; and her siblings, William Shields, her twin, Margaret Harvey, Emmogene Johnson and Charles Shields, as well as her precious grandson, Francis W. Cochran, III.
Mrs. Jessup was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC for nearly 70 years. She was involved in many bible studies, WMU, circle, and Sunday school classes; holding many offices in each group. As her children advanced through school, she was involved in the PTA, holding several offices there.
She was known for her fabulous pound cake and banana bread which she often took to the sick and shut-ins. As she declined in the last several years, she showed great faith and dignity throughout.
She is survived by her daughter, Fay Cochran and her husband, Francis W. and her grandson, John Wilson Cochran and his wife, Rev. Laura Doud Cochran.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 2 pm at Church of the Epiphany Anglican, 13515 Dulles Technology Drive, Herndon, VA 20171.
A graveside committal service will be held on Monday, October 14, 2013 at 3:30 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro, NC.
