Elizabeth Grab Hansen's Obituary
Elizabeth Grab Hansen, 78 of Culpeper died December 8, 2011 at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community. Mrs. Hansen was born May 4, 1933 in Washington D.C. to the late Frederick Daniel and Esther Cottingham Grab.
Mrs. Hansen traveled extensively with parents to London, and Caracas, VZ until she was 4. Her father, a Commercial Attaché, was killed in a plane crash there in 1937, and is buried with Elizabeth's mother in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family returned to Alexandria, where she attended St. Agnes School until graduation. She lived in Alexandria until moving to Culpeper in 1980.
She loved Culpeper and was very active volunteering in the community, including: Culpeper Regional Hospital as a Pink Lady and helping with the Pet Therapy and anywhere else she was needed. She also volunteered with the Culpeper Humane Society, helping placing animals and the Culpeper Museum, greeting and helping with displays. Elizabeth also worked with Pastor Gray at St. Stephens Episcopal Church to start the annual Blessing of the Animals.
She was loved dearly by all in her family and everyone in the community. Her loving smile, charm and wit will be missed by all.
She is survived by one daughter, Shelley Pickard Driscoll and her husband, Patrick of Charleston, SC and one son, Daniel Pickard and his wife, Elizabeth Young of Seattle, WA.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, Christie Perry of Rapid City, SD, Elizabeth Finley and Laura Holt, both of Charleston, SC and Loren Pickard of Belleview, WA. and four great grandchildren, Julia, Colin, Christopher and Judy.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Victor E. Hansen and one brother, Frederick Daniel Grab.
The family will hold a celebration of Elizabeth’s life on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 2 p.m. at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 115 N. East St., Culpeper, VA 22701 with a social to immediately follow.
