Elizabeth "Betsy" Anne Gazaway's Obituary
Betsy Gazaway, 66, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 29, 2019. Betsy was a mother of three, friend to many and will be missed.
Betsy was born in Munich, Germany, and was adopted by a loving American Airforce family, who started her out on a lifetime of adventures. She lived all over the United States and ran off with a guy in a rock band to live in Alaska during the early 80s. While in Alaska, she met her second husband, Tom, who would take her on more adventures, including a few years in Scotland, where she made some dear friends and had her first child, Rebecca.
After Scotland, Betsy and her family moved back to the US for a few years, spending most of the time in Colorado, where she met more life-long friends and had her two daughters Emma and Ana. More adventures followed as the family moved to Okinawa, Japan. During the 90s and early 2000s, Betsy raised her girls and made many more wonderful friends in Japan. She visited Thailand and Australia, experiences that she treasured.
Finally, in 2003, Betsy and her family returned to America, a dream she had looked forward to for many years. Settling in Virginia, Betsy faced the most challenging time in her life. Nonetheless, she made friends everywhere she went, always seeing the good in everyone she met. She gave generously of her time and resources to those around her, often forgetting to look after herself as well.
Betsy never tired of rescuing the beleaguered, of caring for helpless things, and of utilizing her green thumb to create life from nothing. She was a master at 'making do' - often inventing creative solutions to life's little problems. Betsy was exceptionally proud of all of her children and loved them unconditionally. They will forever treasure her memory.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Rd., Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to honor Betsy’s love of animals to the animal rescue of your choice.
