Elizabeth Haack Barr's Obituary
Elizabeth Haack Barr died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Fredericksburg, VA, early in the morning on July 31, 2023 following a long battle against cancer. She was 73 years old.
Elizabeth was born February 6, 1950 in Milwaukee, WI, and was the daughter of Robert and Catharine Haack. As a young teenager, she moved with her family to Potomac, MD where Elizabeth finished her schooling, went to work at GEICO in Bethesda, MD, and met her future husband, Steven Barr, who also worked at GEICO. Elizabeth and Steven married on November 17, 1990.
Due to a corporate restructuring, Elizabeth and Steven both moved with GEICO to Fredericksburg, VA in 1994 where they resided for 29 years. They had been married for almost 33 years prior to her passing.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband Steven Barr; a brother, Thomas Haack of Darien, CT; a sister, Linda Brooks of Potomac, MD; three nieces, Anne Haack of New York City, Catharine Morris of Manhattan Beach, CA, and Laura Sexton of Greenwich, CT; and one nephew, Matthew Sexton of Marathon, FL. Elizabeth is also survived by five grandnieces and grandnephews.
Elizabeth’s older sister Barbara Sexton of Vero Beach, FL preceded her in death earlier this year.
Elizabeth’s loving heart was felt by all who knew her.
A private service will be held for her family and close friends.
