Elinor Marion Perez's Obituary
Elinor M. Perez, 94, was met and welcomed into Heaven by her beloved grandson, Dylan Matthew Corbin on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. She was born on January 23, 1915 in Columbus, Ohio.
She graduated from The Ohio State Univ. with a Bachelors Degree in Business and Psychology and received her Masters in International Relations and Affairs from American University. She moved later moved to Washington, DC, then to Falls Church and later to Reston, Virginia where she and her daughter were the proud 499 and 500 residents of that new town in 1966. While living in Reston, she was instrumental in helping to establish the Reston Commuter Bus system and to help build the Reston Community Center. She retired from the CIA- Central Intelligence Agency after 25 years, working as an editor and writer during her career, prior to that she worked for The State Department, another government agency. She sold real estate for Long and Foster. She was a lifelong learner.
She was a member of her beloved F. T. Valley Baptist Church and was a supportive member of the Republican Party. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of her local Bridge Club. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to playing bridge, she loved reading, especially the bible, her bible study club, flowers and birds.
She is survived by her daughter Diana Corbin and her husband Don of Slate Mills, her oldest sister, Margaret Haney, her grandchildren, Zachary C. Corbin, Ashley L. Corbin, Nathaniel D. Corbin, and Kara G. Corbin, her great grandchildren, Kyle Dylan Matthew Corbin and Ella M. Corbin, her faithful and beloved dog, Cubby and her caregiver, Crystal Self.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Marion, her sister, Dorothy McNemar, her husband Joseph A. Perez and her beloved grandson, Dylan M. Corbin.
The family will receive friends for a time of celebrating Mrs. Perez’s life on Friday, February 20, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 1 p.m. at F.T. Valley Baptist Church (on Rt. 707, Slate Mills Rd). Mrs. Perez chose the gift of donating her body to science for further medical research.
