Elbert Adkins' Obituary
Elbert Adkins, 79, of Culpeper died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was born January 29, 1930 in Seco, KY to the late Seth and Mary Jane Million Adkins.
Mr. Adkins grew up in Wise, VA and later moved to Manassas with his family in 1960. In his earlier years, he worked as a coalminer in South West Virginia then retiring after 30 years of service with the Fairfax School Board. He was known as a hard worker, mostly working 2 jobs to support his family who will remember him as a great Dad and Papaw.
He is survived by four children, Judy Mullins and her husband, Ellis of Culpeper, Jeffery Adkins and his wife, Ann of Manassas, John Russell of Culpeper and James Russell of Manassas, five siblings, Dorothy Steele of Wise, VA, Beulah Adkins of Wise, VA, Eugene Adkins of Cincinnati, OH, Lowell Thomas Adkins of Stafford and Barbara Williamson, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Beulah Mae Adkins, his twin brother, Delbert Adkins and his brother, Lloyd Adkins.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 12 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lonnie Salyers, Rev. Ray Mullins and Rev. Cary Lane officiating.
Interment will follow in Stafford Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Chris Curtis, Brian Greene, Roger Lightner, Timothy Mullins, Curtis Adkins, Justin Wright and Jerry Adkins.
