Went to school with "Brother Burke"...we dated for 3 yrs, until he went off to UVa...My heart is broken to hear of his passing. He was one of the nicest guys I ever met...He was kind, sincere and funny. Came home on breaks from school and worked hard all summer to help with his education. i wondered from time to time how he was and where life took him. i'm sorry for his family...i know they miss him....I will hold my memories in my heart...
I've known for about five years that Dr. Roy ("Bro" to us PiKA brothers at UVA) had died; but, only now have I come across his obituary. He was a groomsman. along with John and Tom and Dave when Barbara ("Bobi") and I wed. I always enjoyed his company. Though I don't recall seeing him after our wedding, I did hear, through PiKA brother John, that Bro was "eternally grateful" to me for introducing him to Bob Dylan's music. Yeah. Amen.
I did hear about the photography of "Dr. Flowers" and had his "Maximal Minimalism" as my wallpaper for a couple years. And every photo he took reflected the soul and the heart and the wisdom and the humility and the sly humor of my Bro. I don't know the URLs for his two albums; but, that may befit his character, and may open eyes, as he did mine, to wonder in wandering
I worked with Roy in the mid to late 1980's at the State of Georgia Environmental Protection Division. He was a mentor and a friend. My life has taken many twists and turns since then but today I thought of Roy and went to the internet to see how he was doing. Sadly, I found this instead. Roy was a unique talent and individual and I am sad to learn of his passing at this late date.
