Douglas Morton Sr.'s Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Douglas Morton, Sr., affectionately known as “Bonnie Blue”. Born on March 4, 1943, he gained his wings on the morning of March 7, 2023, just 3 days after his 80th birthday.
He grew up in Bowling Green, Virginia and was a 1964 graduate of Union High School. He worked for Giant Food, Inc as a Grocery Manager for more than 30 years and, after his retirement, he went on to work for and retire from Manheim Auto Auction as well as the Rappahannock Area Agency on Aging where he was the Transportation Coordinator. His work ethic was something to behold, and we are following in his footsteps.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ruby and James L. Morton; his biological father, James “Uncle Jimmy” Frye; his late wife, Ruth Ann Morton (Nichols); and his beloved dog and most loyal companion, Bison. He leaves behind his three children, Douglas Morton, Jr, Michael Morton (Debbie) and Michelle Morton-Azeem; stepson, Anthony Green and their mother, Nettie Wells. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Ashley Fortune (Rodney), Devin, Jalen, Lexis, Jennifer, Michael, Jr, Jessica, Dominic and Jordan; and 3 great grandchildren, Malekyi, Madyson, Makynli.
There are many relatives and acquaintances that he met and spent time with on his life journey, but we would especially like to thank the staff at Fredericksburg Health and Rehab as well as the management team at Madonna House who worked unselfishly to ensure that his health, safety and well-being were a priority. You all have gone above and beyond what most would do, and for that, we will be forever thankful for the unwavering care that you showed our father as well as the support that you have shown us since his passing.
To be respectful of his wishes, we will not have a viewing or a service but ask that, in lieu of sending flowers, please consider donating to or volunteering with The Table at St. Georges in Fredericksburg, The Fredericksburg Area Food Bank, The Thurman Brisben Center, or your favorite non-profit.
To everyone who has reached out to us with their prayers and well wishes, you are appreciated, and we will always remember your love and kindness during this difficult time.
Michelle, Douglas, Jr and Michael
