Dorothy H. Carder's Obituary
Dorothy H. Carder, 85, entered into rest June 9, 2009 in Elm Terrace Gardens, Lansdale, PA. She was the wife of Cecil E. Carder, Sr.; they would have observed their 59th wedding anniversary in August.
Born in Rappahannock County, VA, she was a daughter of the late Joseph R. Hawkins, Sr. and Ertha V. (Hawkins) Hawkins. She graduated from Rappahannock High School in 1941 and Madison College, now James Madison University, in 1945. After college she taught elementary school in VA. Cecil and Dorothy were married in August 18, 1950 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Rappahannock County, VA. Cecil was pastor of Zoan Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, VA, then during seminary at Jonesboro Baptist Church and at Dundas in southern Virginia. She and her husband accepted an assignment as missionaries to Thailand where they served from 1955 thru 1979. They then resided in King of Prussia, PA, prior to moving to Elm Terrace in 2003.
Surviving with her husband are 3 children, Jonita Evelyn Carder of Philadelphia, PA; Cecil E. Carder, Jr. and his wife, Sunni of Cypress, TX and Jeannette Carder Meyers and her husband, Wren of Occoquan, VA; 4 grandchildren, Jeffrey Lee and Robert Han Carder of Cypress, TX and Claire Virginia and Tess Tanager Meyers of Occoquan, VA; 1 sister, Frances Hawkins Schober of Virginia Beach, VA and 1 brother, Amos Hawkins in KY; a brother, Joseph R. Hawkins, Jr., preceded in death.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 S. West St, Culpeper with Rev. John Farrar officiating. A one hour visitation will be held prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
