Dorothy Ann Hicks' Obituary
We celebrate the life of Dorothy Ann Hicks, 64, who has left us on July 24, 2007 to be with our Our Lord Jesus Christ, our Heavenly Father, Creator of all life.
Dotty was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver who believed in Jesus Christ and our Lord God. She lived by Christian faith, taught in the Holy Scriptures. During her life journey Dotty was loved honored and respected by the many people whose lives she touched as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend and medical caregiver. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Woodland United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the OWL and Salem Volunteer Fire Departments.
Dotty was a licensed caregiver for 26 years. She was one of the first women in Virginia to cross the gender barrier as a first responder in the emergency services as an EMT. She served 12 years as a trauma nurse and 14 years as a nursing director and leader working with elderly and long term care. She will be greatly missed and always loved by her family.
She is survived by her husband and friend for 52 years, Dewey (Buddy) Hicks, her children Lauri A. Halverson and her husband, Floyd, Michael D. Hicks and his wife Jessica, and David J. Hicks and his wife, Renee.
Additional survivors included her grandchildren Corey Lynne Collins, Elizabeth Marie Plemmoms, Tanya Lynne Hicks, Kelli Marie Hicks, Heather Lynne Hicks, Mindy Diane Hicks, Jordan Grace Hicks, and Rachel Lauren Hicks, a sister Grace Moore and her husband Lynwood(Butch), and a sister-in-law, Terry Vaughan and her husband, Frank.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy C. Wilkins and Grace Duclos Wilkins, her daughter Elizabeth Hicks and a sister Patrica Riggins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 26, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 27, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Woodland United Methodist Church with Rev. Lynn Wilbur officiating.
Interment will follow in Woodland United Methodist Church.
